Text 1
                Once a fisherman named Batara Guru Sahala lived in Batakland. Oneday, he caught a fish. To his surprise, he found that the fish could talk. It begged Sahala to set free. Sahala did accordingly.
                As soon as the fish was free. It changed in to a woman. She was so beautiful that the fisherman fell in love with. The woman agreed to marry Sahala. However, she told him that he must never fish. Sahala promised her that he would not tell anyone about it.
                They were happily married, and had two daughters. Every morning Sahala went out fishing. His daughter would bring him his lunch. Oneday, however, instead of bringing the food to their father, the girls ate it. When Sahala knew what they had done with his meal, he got very angry. He shputed at them, saying. “you behaved exactly like the daughter of a fish.”
                The girls did not know what their father meant. They went home and asked their mother about it. When they told what he said, she was very annoyed. Although Sahala apologized to her later, she wouldn’t forgive him for breaking his promise.
                Then the earthbegan to tremble, and volcanoes startrd to erupt. The earth cracked to from a big hole. People said this hole become Lake Toba.

There are many ways of communicating that do not uttilize language. Cries of warning and aggression, of contentment and affection, are forms of communication not limited to men. Or, on the human level, the dirty look, which may convey world of meaning, doesn’t involve meaning. Gestures, too, are forms of communication, although these seem always involved with culturally defined habits.
